We’re Recruiting New Trustees — Could You Help Shape the Future of SoB?

At Survivors of aBuse (SoB), we believe that breaking the cycle of abuse starts with people — passionate, compassionate, skilled people who care about creating lasting change.

As a mainly women-led, survivor-led charity, we support adults impacted by abuse in all its forms — from childhood to adulthood — through our Breaking the Cycle™ C.L.E.A.N.E.R.™ Living Therapy Programme, peer-support groups, and national campaigning.

Over the past decade, we’ve grown from one person’s lived experience into a voice for survivors.

Now, as we launch our new 2026–2029 Strategic Plan, we’re ready to strengthen our governance and expand our reach.

That’s why we’re looking to welcome a new Chair of Trustees and three new Trustees who can help us grow, govern, and deliver even greater impact.

💚 Why Trustees Matter

Trustees are the backbone of any charity. They provide the experience, oversight, and strategic direction that enable small charities like ours to thrive responsibly.

At SoB, trustees do more than attend meetings — they help shape our vision, steer our strategy, and bring their skills to life in a hands-on, meaningful way.

This is your opportunity to be part of something powerful: helping survivors of abuse move from surviving to thriving.

🌿 What We’re Looking For

We are seeking individuals who bring both expertise and heart — people who are motivated by our mission and ready to contribute their skills to help SoB grow sustainably.

We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

PR & Communications – to raise SoB’s profile, tell our story, and amplify survivor voices in the media and beyond.

Fundraising – to support our ambitious plans for growth and ensure we can reach even more survivors through our Breaking the Cycle™ programme.

Digital & Website Development – to strengthen our online presence and support digital transformation as we scale our reach and resources.

In addition, we’re looking for a Chair of Trustees who can:

• Lead our Board effectively and inclusively.
• Work closely with our CEO to drive SoB’s strategic objectives.
• Ensure strong governance and safeguarding standards.
• Champion our values of compassion, collaboration, and integrity.

You don’t need to have lived experience of abuse — though if you do, we welcome it. What matters most is your commitment to safeguarding, equality, ethical leadership, and social justice.

✨ What We Offer

Joining SoB means joining a small but mighty, trauma-informed team that values empathy, professionalism, and purpose.

We provide:
✔ A full induction and ongoing support.
✔ The chance to use your professional skills to make real impact.
✔ A welcoming, collaborative board environment.
✔ The opportunity to shape a growing, survivor-led charity that’s changing lives.
✔Out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed – we don’t expect trustees to be out of pocket for travel or other agreed costs.

The time commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per month. Meetings are mainly online, with the occasional in-person session in South-East London or Kent.
