Our Official Corporate Sponsor: 1840 Lawn Care

We’re delighted to welcome 1840 Lawn Care as an official Corporate Sponsor of Survivors of Abuse.  Owner Mike Taylor has generously donated £1500 which will directly support the delivery of our eight-week course ensuring that our participants gain confidence and opportunities to build a brighter future.

Mike said, “I’ve been looking to support a charity for a couple of years but hadn’t found one that really resonated with me. Then I met Chris at a networking group and with a baby on the way it all seemed to fall into place choosing to support S.O.B.”

Based in Croydon Mike studied a degree in turfgrass science and built up many years of experience in the turf industry working at a golf course and for a private individual on a very large estate.  He started 1840 Lawn Care in 2019 to offer something different; he wanted to bring the knowledge and experience of working on these types of high-end large-scale projects to people’s lawns at home. Today 1840 Lawn Care supports clients in Croydon and the surrounding areas.

And in case you’re curious about the how the name 1840 Lawn Care came about.  In the 17th Century, large homes and wealthy landowners had their grass shorn closely. Then in 1830 Edwin Budding invented the lawn mower. This drastically reduced the manpower required to cut a lawn, and so allowed the less wealthy to have a nice lawn too. The invention of the lawn mower, along with globalisation during the 1840s, made lawns fashionable, and easier to maintain, across the world.
